EHang has agreed to work with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to assess the regulatory, technical and safety requirements for introducing its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Malaysia.

The arrangement is intended to help establish a pathway for potential advanced air mobility (AAM) operations under Malaysian requirements. However, it does not itself authorise commercial flights: CAAM has said that any proposed demonstrations or trials will require separate approvals, and that future operations will depend on safety assessments and operational readiness.

EHang and CAAM announce sandbox cooperation at TXA 2026. Conor Yang (fourth from left), Chief Financial Officer of EHang, shakes hands with Dato’ Captain Norazman Mahmud (third from right), CEO of CAAM. They are joined by Captain Mohd Nazri Bin Borhannuddin (third from left), Director of Flight Operations of CAAM; Captain Mohd Radzi Bin Mohamad Alias (second from right), Deputy CEO (Regulatory) of CAAM; and Ir. Collin Joshua Melling (far right), Director of Airworthiness of CAAM.

The cooperation will focus on airworthiness, operational safety, personnel competency and maintenance arrangements. EHang will provide information to support CAAM’s assessment of its proposed activities, with the authority retaining responsibility for regulatory oversight.

In August 2026, CAAM released a proposed Low Altitude Economy Framework for public consultation and began working with Futurise on an Advanced Air Mobility Concept of Operations. Subsequent work and collaborations have been intended to guide the development and possible integration of emerging aircraft technologies, including eVTOLs.

EHang’s cooperation with CAAM follows similar regulatory sandbox initiatives in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Hong Kong. The approach allows the company to work with authorities in individual markets to examine how its aircraft and operating procedures could meet local requirements.

The company’s EH216‑S pilotless VTOL aircraft has received type, production and standard airworthiness certificates from the Civil Aviation Administration of China. EHang says that the aircraft has also entered operations under China’s commercial operating qualifications for pilotless passenger-carrying eVTOLs.
