Dubai plans to begin commercial air taxi operations by the end of 2026, using four vertiports across major transport and tourism districts.

Joby Aviation will operate the electric aircraft under a six-year exclusive agreement with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority(RTA). RTA identified Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina as the initial service areas.

Dubai’s primary vertiport near Dubai International Airport reached technical completion in April 2026. General Civil Aviation Authority certification followed on July 7 2026. VDX became the world’s first purpose-built commercial vertiport to secure regulatory certification for eVTOL operations.

Where Dubai’s first four air taxi stations will operate

Joby identified the three sites beyond DXB on November 17 2025, providing more precise locations for Dubai’s initial network.

Dubai Mall will provide the Downtown Dubai connection. Atlantis The Royal will serve Palm Jumeirah. American University in Dubai will support Dubai Marina and Dubai Internet City. VDX near Dubai International Airport will operate as the network’s primary hub.

RTA continues to classify the four service zones as DXB, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina.

Emaar Properties, Atlantis The Royal and Wasl Asset Management Group are involved in developing the additional vertiport sites. Skyports Infrastructure is responsible for vertiport design, development and operations.

Joby will manufacture and operate the aircraft while managing passenger operations. RTA will oversee operational governance and connections with Dubai’s wider transport network.

Which Dubai air taxi routes have been confirmed

RTA has published Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah as its clearest journey example.

Officials expect that flight to take about 10 minutes, against approximately 45 minutes by road.

Current RTA project information identifies four operating locations without publishing a complete timetable of scheduled city pairs.

Joby’s aircraft carries one pilot and as many as four passengers. Aircraft performance specifications include speeds near 320 kilometres per hour and a range around 161 kilometres.

Dubai testing has already extended beyond flights around a single site.

Joby completed a 17-minute crewed flight from Margham to Al Maktoum International Airport on November 9 2025. RTA and Joby used that flight to test point-to-point operations within shared airspace.

DXB vertiport adds passenger capacity before launch

VDX gives Dubai a completed and certified aviation facility ahead of commercial passenger operations.

DXB’s four-storey station covers approximately 3,100 square metres. Infrastructure includes two take-off and landing areas, electric aircraft charging systems and climate-controlled passenger facilities.

VDX can process up to 170,000 passengers annually once commercial operations begin. GCAA certification followed assessments covering infrastructure, operating procedures, safety management, emergency readiness and regulatory compliance.

Joby also completed 21 piloted Dubai flights during its summer test campaign. Engineers collected aircraft performance data in desert heat and low-density air.

Testing covered thermal management and flight dynamics. Joby used the results to support operating manuals and regional certification requirements.

RTA expects three additional vertiports to extend the network beyond DXB. Construction and certification schedules for those facilities will determine how quickly citywide capacity expands after service begins.

Uber will provide the passenger booking channel

Uber introduced Uber Air powered by Joby on February 25 2026, showing how passengers will access Dubai flights through its existing app.

Eligible journeys will display an Uber Air option after users enter their destination. Uber plans to combine the flight with Uber Black transport for ground connections before and after the air taxi journey.

Joby continues to target its first Dubai passengers during 2026. Regulatory work remains part of that launch sequence.

Joby’s UAE approval process uses aircraft certification data and local qualification work with the GCAA. Company filings indicate Dubai’s approval route can precede full US type certification.

RTA said in April 2026 that commercial launch remains targeted for the end of the year. July’s certification of VDX completed a major infrastructure requirement for that timetable.

Current RTA project information does not publish passenger fares or a detailed commercial flight timetable.
