Strategically Robust Game-Theoretic Multi-Agent Trajectory Optimization

Aviation authorities worldwide expect Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) traffic management to be decentralized among service providers, requiring AAM flights to autonomously plan trajectories by predicting other flights' control inputs rather than relying on centralized coordination. Game-theoretic approaches that formulate multi-agent collision avoidance as an exact dynamic potential game can efficiently find open-loop equilibria, but they assume that agents exactly follow their equilibrium trajectories---an unrealistic assumption given uncertainties in actuation, perception, and computation. We propose a strategically robust formulation where each agent protects against a fictitious adversary that, for each timestep, perturbs other agents' control inputs within a bounded budget to minimize distance at that timestep. We show that, under reasonable assumptions on agents' distance cost and robustness levels, the strategically robust game remains an exact dynamic potential game and admits a quasi-closed-form solution to the inner adversarial problem for linear dynamics, which limits computational overhead. Experiments with up to eight agents using logarithmic distance costs show that strategic robustness selects more robust trajectories in high-collision-risk configurations while leaving low-risk trajectories nearly unchanged, with only a modest increase in runtime.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Paying for Space: Incentive-Aware Motion Planning for Multi-Agent Collision Avoidance

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) systems require scalable coordination mechanisms to manage large fleets of aerial vehicles operating in shared, capacity-limited airspace. In such environments, different operators may have private preferences over trajectory characteristics, such as travel time, fuel consumption, or deviation from nominal routes. If centralized traffic management relies on self-reported preferences, operators may strategically misreport their costs to obtain more favorable trajectories. This paper proposes a multistage motion planning framework augmented with mechanism design to enable collision avoidance for AAM systems with privately known costs. The proposed approach integrates convex safe corridor construction with a VCG-inspired mechanism to ensure conflict-free passage through constrained airspace while incentivizing truthful revelation of private preferences. Simulation results demonstrate safe and decentralized coordination among agents with heterogeneous preferences.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

A Mean-Field Approach for Safe Routing of Multi-Destination Urban Air Mobility Networks

As Urban Air Mobility (UAM) systems scale toward high-density operations, managing autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) traffic requires control frameworks that are both tractable and safety-critical. This paper presents a principled optimal control-theoretic foundation for routing in multi-destination UAM networks subject to vertiport capacity and flow constraints. We first model the network as a destination-conditioned Continuous-Time Markov Chain (CTMC) to capture the stochastic transitions between queueing, service, and flight states. To ensure tractability, we employ a mean-field fluid approximation and derive the underlying system dynamics as a set of coupled ordinary differential equations. A key contribution of this work is the formal proof of the positive invariance of the queue-free state space. We demonstrate that under specific underloaded conditions, a system initialized without queues will remain queue-free indefinitely. This result allows us to transform a complex, infinite-dimensional continuous-time optimal control problem into a tractable, finite-dimensional algebraic optimization. The resulting framework jointly optimizes for travel time and multi-hop efficiency while ensuring network-wide stability. We validate the approach by characterizing the steady-state flow equilibria and providing sufficient conditions for safe, congestion-free operation in large-scale mobility systems.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Belief-Adaptive Online Autonomy for Quadrotor UAV Navigation under GNSS Degradation in Urban Environments

Reliable online autonomy is critical for quadrotor operation in urban airspaces, where global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) measurements suffer from multipath, blockage, and latency issues, introducing non-stationary, temporally correlated errors that degrade conventional GNSS-IMU fusion. This paper presents a belief-adaptive online autonomy framework that augments an extended Kalman filter (EKF) with explicit GNSS trust modelling, second-order online belief adaptation, and latency-aware out-of-sequence measurement handling. GNSS trust is represented as a latent belief state that modulates measurement weighting and multipath bias uncertainty, and is updated online using EKF consistency signals. Unlike reactive covariance tuning, the proposed approach enables proactive and stable sensor trust adaptation without prior environmental knowledge or offline training. Evaluation in simulated urban air mobility scenarios with correlated multipath, stochastic latency, and obstacle constraints demonstrates improved belief convergence, smoother trajectories, and reduced estimation and tracking errors compared to naive, adaptive, and first-order baselines. The framework preserves classical GNSS-IMU fusion structure and can be integrated directly into existing flight control pipelines, supporting robust online autonomy in GNSS degraded environments.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

nBMS, a Neuromorphic Battery Management System with a Silicon-Validated Spiking State-of-Charge Core for eVTOL Aircraft

State-of-charge (SoC) estimation for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft must run on the vehicle under hard energy and certification budgets, on a duty cycle unlike anything in the automotive literature. In this study an event-driven spiking network, the state-estimation core of the nBMS neuromorphic battery management architecture, is designed for per-timestep SoC estimation and evaluated on a public 22-cell eVTOL dataset with an automotive cross-check. A delta and population encoder, a second-order sigma-delta spiking layer, and a rate-accumulator readout hold 34{,}433 int16 parameters with zero dense multiply-accumulate (MAC) operations. The estimator reaches 2.45\% root-mean-square error (RMSE) against 1.74\% for a tuned long short-term memory (LSTM) baseline, a gap characterized as a temporal-mixing limit in cruise; in exchange it degrades 1.6 times slower than an adaptive leaky integrate-and-fire control under sensor noise and needs roughly 3{,}500 additions per step where the LSTM needs 67{,}700 multiply-accumulates. The full core is deployed on a low-cost automotive-qualified Artix-7 field-programmable gate array at 87\% block-RAM utilization, meets timing at 50~MHz, and reproduces the frozen fixed-point reference bit-exactly over a real 491-step flight segment on silicon. Fully annotated post-implementation analysis gives 1.30~$μ$J per inference, an average of 0.65~$μ$W at the 0.5~Hz mission cadence.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Uncertainty-Aware Conflict Detection Against Operator-Conditioned Weather Hazards

Strategic flight plan validation in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) environments requires robust methods for predicting aircraft state uncertainty and detecting potential conflicts with dynamic airspace hazards. This paper presents a novel framework for uncertainty-conditioned trajectory prediction combined with polyhedra hazard representation for pre-flight conflict detection. We introduce a closed-form uncertainty estimation method that couples non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) curve fitting for kinematic trajectory generation with a Kalman Filter for state covariance propagation. Drawing from the Light Propagation Algorithm (LPA) paradigm, we employ a sigmoid-blended measurement noise model that captures the uncertainty reduction behavior of flight management systems approaching the required time of arrival (RTA) for waypoints. The resulting temporal uncertainty bounds are derived through a velocity-to-time variance transformation, enabling probabilistic assessment of arrival time deviations along the flight path. For hazard representation, we develop an operator-conditioned classification scheme that transforms gridded environmental data, specifically weather phenomena, into three-dimensional polyhedra volumes with intensity-based stratification. These hazard polyhedra incorporate aircraft-specific safety buffers computed from vehicle performance characteristics. Conflict detection is performed through mesh intersection algorithms operating on the spatial uncertainty tube surrounding the mean trajectory against the hazard polyhedra and temporal overlap. Propeller-wing interactions of a lift + cruise eVTOL configuration during transition

The wakes of a lift + cruise aircraft's vertical lift propellers interact with the wing during the transition from hover to forward flight. This study investigates how variations in axial and longitudinal separations between the vertical lift propellers and the wing affect aerodynamic performance during this critical phase. Axial variations were introduced by orienting the motors either upright or inverted at two longitudinal positions relative to the wing. Wind tunnel tests were conducted on the resulting lift + cruise wing configurations over a Reynolds number range of 52,000 to 377,000, using tufts, pressure taps, and load cells to capture aerodynamic behaviour. Results show that the early transition phase (front propeller advance ratios between 0 and 0.25) is particularly sensitive to configuration changes. Rear motor orientation had a pronounced effect: when oriented upright at the shortest longitudinal separation, the active lift propellers increased the lift-drag ratio of the design by approximately 4 units, whereas in the rear motor inverted case the design suffered a 4-point reduction in the lift-drag ratio. Decreasing the longitudinal separation amplified both the beneficial lift contribution of the rear propeller and the generally adverse effects of the front propeller. However, placing the front propeller closer to the wing in the upright orientation enhanced performance at advance ratios between 0.11 and 0.25, due to favourable interactions between the wing and the front propeller's trailing vortices.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Low-Altitude Fluid Antenna Network with Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning

Low-altitude wireless networks (LAWNs) integrate terrestrial and aerial platforms to provide ubiquitous communication, sensing, and localization services for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. However, dynamic air-ground and air-air channels, abrupt blockages, and heterogeneous interference hinder the realization of this goal. Nevertheless, fluid antenna (FA), a cutting-edge multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique, overcomes these challenges by reconfiguring antenna positions to unlock additional spatial degrees-of-freedom. In this paper, towards bringing low-altitude FA networks into reality, we study the fast and high-performance FA reconfiguration for low-altitude FA networks with multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL). Specifically, we present an electromagnetic digital twin (EM-DT)-assisted MARL framework. To fill the sim-to-real gap, we introduce a two-stage transfer learning framework. Our case study shows that joint FA positions and beamforming optimization can enhance the system sum-rate by 118.5%, compared to the fixed position baseline. This gain comes from the dynamic millisecond timescale reconfiguration of FA arrays and the adaptive steering of beams toward aerial users with mobility.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Taming the Tilt: A Unified Pilot Control Concept for Transformational eVTOL Aircraft

Transformational electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles have gained significant attention over the past decade due to their efficient wing-borne cruise capabilities and reduced reliance on ground-based infrastructure. However, control system design for these vehicles remains challenging, as they must operate across multiple flight phases, each with distinct dominant dynamics. If left unaddressed, this complexity would significantly increase pilot workload, thus motivating the development of pilot control systems for multi-phase flight operations. The Simplified Vehicle Operations concept presents a promising strategy for reducing pilot workload. This study presents the design and implementation of a novel pilot control concept for eVTOL aircraft, validated through a tandem tilt-wing aircraft simulation on a full-motion simulator equipped with an active, force-feedback side stick. The system provides pilots with tactile feedback during specific flight phases, supporting intuitive control. The proposed approach enables seamless transitions and multi-phase flight maneuvers by leveraging the available degrees of freedom. Furthermore, an optimal-control-based methodology is proposed as a metric to evaluate command-filter-induced performance penalties and inceptor activities. The results show that the proposed command filter does not significantly increase the mission duration compared to the closed-loop system, while the active side stick helps reduce inceptor activity.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Geometry-Aware DRL for Multi-Subband Scheduling in Satellite-Assisted UAM Networks

In this paper, we investigate downlink scheduling for urban air mobility (UAM) in a cooperative space-air-ground integrated network. Multiple ground stations (GSs) employ narrow three-dimensional beams and share spectrum across multiple subbands, while a satellite provides an orthogonal-band service option. Rapidly time-varying geometry and directional interference require joint decisions on base station association, GS subband assignment, and transmit powers. We formulate a finite-horizon mixed discrete-continuous problem that maximizes sum rate while penalizing handovers and GS overload, using only UAM positions and velocities. To address the combinatorial scheduling problem, we propose GeoSetPPO, a geometry-aware set-attention proximal policy optimization (PPO) method that outputs per-UAM discrete association and subband decisions with permutation-invariant representations. Conditioned on each schedule, GS powers are computed by a per-slot successive convex approximation (SCA) module under per-GS power budgets and minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) constraints. To reduce training cost and improve stability, we adopt a two-stage training strategy that transitions reward evaluation from uniform power to SCA-based power allocation. Simulations demonstrate stable convergence, higher returns than multi-layer perceptron (MLP)- and Transformer-based PPO under the considered training setting, and favorable reward and schedule-feasibility performance relative to algorithm-based and distance-based schedulers. In the larger evaluated network, GeoSetPPO also redu(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

ETA Coordination at UAM Corridor Merging Points Using Worst-Case and Stochastic Trajectory Bounds

We study an Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)-based traffic-coordination framework for Urban Air Mobility corridors with merging at constrained waypoints (CWPs), where approved ETAs at CWPs serve as Required Times of Arrival (RTAs). Vehicle operators submit ETA plans at the merging point for approval by corridor-management authorities before corridor entry. Corridor entry is then scheduled by enforcing pairwise ETA gaps that maintain inter-vehicle separation on shared corridor sections. We develop two trajectory bounds to compute sufficient ETA gaps: a worst-case bound based on prescribed speed limits, and a stochastic bound based on probabilistic position envelopes under acceleration uncertainty. Using these bounds, we formulate sufficient ETA-gap computation and first-come, first-served corridor entrance scheduling. Simulations show that ETA coordination improves safety over an unscheduled baseline. The worst-case bound provides stronger robustness under higher disturbance levels, whereas the stochastic bound allows higher throughput under mild disturbances while relying on probabilistic modeling assumptions.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Demand-Driven Vertiport Siting and Discrete-Event Fleet Simulation for On-Demand Urban Air Mobility Network Design

This paper presents a demand-driven framework for on-demand Urban Air Mobility (UAM) network design that links vertiport siting, fleet simulation, and door-to-door travel-time feasibility. Demand is estimated from commuter and passenger activity data, converted into spatial trip-end points, and clustered using K-means to generate candidate vertiport locations. Candidate networks are screened using range and minimum station-spacing constraints, then evaluated with a discrete-event simulation that models multi-vehicle dispatch, deadhead relocation, battery swaps, and service regularity. Flight time and energy consumption are computed using a point-mass eVTOL performance model. In a Greater Los Angeles case study, the preferred design expands from four stations and four eVTOLs at low demand to sixteen stations and twelve eVTOLs at the highest tested demand level. Results show that larger fleets improve completion time and vehicle-arrival regularity but do not eliminate deadhead flights, indicating that spatial demand imbalance remains an operational burden. The travel-time savings analysis further suggests that UAM is most defensible for longer or congestion-heavy trips where sufficient non-flight time remains after accounting for flight time.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Wind-Informed Rapid Flight-Planning in Complex Urban Topologies via Machine Learning and Experimental Validation

Advanced air mobility operations hold the potential to enhance and expand regional transportation of both people and goods in populated areas. However, hazardous flight conditions arising from interactions between wind and the built environment remain a significant challenge for aerial vehicles in urban settings. This work proposes a novel framework towards safe flight planning of aerial vehicles in windy urban environments. A learning-based surrogate model is trained to rapidly predict flow fields from readily available information such as building geometry and incident wind. This surrogate prediction is used to calculate a volumetric flight challenge scalar field based on critical flow parameters and proximity to structures. A safe, flow-informed flight trajectory is then identified through a cost-minimizing pathfinder. The complete system is demonstrated experimentally through flight tests of a micro aerial vehicle through a model urban geometry placed in a large fan-array wind tunnel. Comparing this approach to trajectories generated without knowledge of the wind field, we find the flow-informed approach reduces undesired vehicle displacement and improves flight stability. This work is among the first practical demonstrations of safe, wind-aware methodologies for advanced air mobility in urban environments.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

An ArcGIS Framework for Mapping Human-Centered Noise Annoyance for AAM Infrastructure Planning

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) represents a transformative shift in urban transportation; however, successful implementation depends strongly on public acceptance, with noise emerging as a major concern for low-altitude electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) operations. Existing studies commonly describe eVTOL noise using acoustic metrics such as A-weighted sound level and day-night average sound level. This study develops a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based framework that translates eVTOL acoustic outputs into maps representing the percentage of the population that is highly annoyed (%HA) for a representative medical delivery route in Northwest Arkansas. The results show that noise and annoyance generally decrease with distance from the route, while the highest annoyance occurs during descent, followed by climb and cruise. Census population data are integrated to estimate the number of highly annoyed individuals and identify spatial impact hotspots. Noise-annoyance results are then combined with route distance and airspace factors to evaluate alternative routes and identify balanced routing strategies. The proposed framework connects acoustic assessment with human response and supports the identification of noise-sensitive areas, comparison of route alternatives, and socially sustainable AAM infrastructure planning.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Co-planning of Flight Corridors and Communication Infrastructure for Urban Drone Logistics Networks

Reliable wireless connectivity is essential for urban air mobility (UAM) networks in dense urban environments. It is therefore imperative to carefully plan the supporting communication infrastructure for UAM flight corridors. Most existing works optimize communication infrastructure and UAV flight paths independently, often leading to unnecessary base station (BS) deployment or excessive flight detours. This paper studies the joint optimization of BS deployment and UAV flight corridors in complex urban environments, aiming to minimize both infrastructure investment and flight distance while satisfying communication quality constraints. We propose CR-CMAB, a channel reciprocity-guided combinatorial multi-armed bandit framework. The framework constructs high-fidelity radio maps using 3D ray tracing, selects BS combinations via coverage-aware CMAB search, and dynamically expands the search space by identifying promising BS locations through channel reciprocity. Experimental results from a detailed case study demonstrate that CR-CMAB outperforms baseline methods with moderate computational time, yielding more strategically positioned BSs and shorter flight corridors. This study offers a practical planning perspective for cost-effective and communication-reliable UAM deployment in future smart cities.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Declarative Problem Solving in UAM Strategic Deconfliction

The growing demand for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) introduces significant challenges in airspace management, particularly within densely populated metropolitan regions. As the number of aerial vehicles-such as drones, air taxis, and helicopters-continues to rise, so does the risk of mid-air collisions and conflicts with existing air traffic and obstacles. Ensuring safe and efficient UAM operations requires robust strategic deconfliction mechanisms. We propose an Answer Set Programming (ASP) based approach for strategic deconfliction, focusing on time synchronization and route optimization for conflict-free flight plans. The solution is benchmarked against Constraint Programming (CP), emphasizing scalability and resource use. Results show that ASP offers faster execution and better scalability for small to medium cases, while CP maintains stable memory but degrades with complexity.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Diverge-Merge Formation and MAC Control in Structured Airspace

The rapid scaling of advanced air mobility (AAM) makes corridor-based structured airspace a promising infrastructure for high-density unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) traffic. Formation flight can improve corridor capacity by suppressing shockwave propagation, but rigid formations become inefficient or unsafe during ramp branching, merging, and congestion. To address this problem, this paper proposes a task-driven diverge-merge control framework for UAV formations in structured airspace. At the beginning, a corridor-ramp branching structured airspace model is established to characterize the traffic dynamics and spatial constraints. Building upon this, a fast task-driven clustering mechanism integrates spatial connectivity, flight intent, and aerial task interactions to enable real-time diverge and merge for ramp branching and traffic reshaping. To make the diverge-merge reconfigurations executable at the media access control (MAC) layer of the formation, a cluster-aware distributed time division multiple access (CAD-TDMA) protocol is further designed. It protects intra-cluster control synchronization while conservatively reusing low-risk inter-cluster slots. Simulation results show that the proposed diverge-merge algorithm maintains near-zero geometrical misclassification under severe physical overlapping and congestion. With the formation diverge-merge traces, CAD-TDMA achieves the best delay--loss--throughput tradeoff over fixed TDMA and WiFi MAC. It shows that the proposed formation control framework can jointly support real-time formation reconfiguration and reliable commu(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Obstacle-Aware Four-Dimensional Trajectory Design for Urban Air Mobility

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) with electric Vertical TakeOff and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles can help address ground traffic congestion. The design of an eVTOL trajectory that is safe and reduces travel time is key for UAM adoption. Existing works on trajectory design either may not adequately incorporate dense obstacles in urban environments, complex eVTOL flight dynamics, or one or more flight phases. Not considering these factors can result in low-quality, or worse infeasible, trajectories. We develop a hybrid framework that can integrate building obstacles data, wind data, eVTOL flight dynamics, and other real-world operational constraints to estimate a four-dimensional eVTOL flight trajectory in ascent, cruise, and descent that aims to minimize travel time. Our framework first fills the obstacle-free regions with intersecting convex polygons, then identifies potentially low-travel time candidate sequences of these polygons using a Graph of Convex Sets-based path planner, and then uses an Optimal Control Program to give the final trajectory that passes through the polygons in a sequence identified before. We evaluate our framework on routes within New York City. Our framework can design trajectories respecting the above constraints in the presence of as many as 250 building obstacles. We show that not including the above constraints can underestimate the flight time by as much as 20\%.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Conflict Resolution under Degraded Surveillance in Air Corridors Using Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning

Safe Advanced Air Mobility operations require aircraft to maintain separation when surveillance information is noisy, delayed, incomplete, or temporarily unavailable. This study develops a Deep Q-Network-based Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning framework for decentralized conflict resolution among heterogeneous small unmanned aerial vehicles and electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft operating within a structured three-dimensional corridor. Separate policies are trained for the two aircraft categories using local observations and a 14-action space that includes maintaining course, turning, vertical maneuvering, landing, and speed control. The simulation incorporates aircraft-specific dynamics, energy use, corridor constraints, observation noise, communication delay, information dropout, wind disturbance, actuator uncertainty, and model uncertainty. The trained policies are evaluated across 90 combinations of traffic density and minimum separation thresholds. Loss-of-separation frequency and duration generally increase with traffic density and separation requirements, although most events are resolved within 1s. Under safe conditions, agents maintain their motion approximately 79% of the time. During conflicts, turning accounts for 33% of actions, followed by maintaining motion at 29%, speed control at 25%, and vertical maneuvers at 13%. Six Pareto-optimal configurations reveal trade-offs between safety and corridor capacity. The framework supports the simulation-based evaluation of safer AAM conflict-resolution strategies under degraded surveillance conditions.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

End-to-End LLM Flight Planning with RAG-based Memory and Multi-modal Coach Agent

Bridging the gap between human pilot intent and autonomous flight operation is critical for real-world electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft deployment. Flight planning traditionally relies on classic algorithms that struggle to incorporate flexible human preferences. We present FRAMe, an End-to-End Large Language Model (LLM) Flight Planning tool with RAG-based Memory and Multi-modal Coach Agent. Our system integrates a planner LLM with a multi-modal coach agent and retrieval augmented generation (RAG)-based memory to generate flight plans that satisfy mission constraints while aligning with human flight operator preferences. We demonstrate the system in a range of real-world-inspired scenarios of varying difficulty levels. Across four LLMs, the full FRAMe system (RAG and coach) yields the highest validity for every planner (up to 93.8% aggregate, 99% on Easy scenarios for the strongest planner) and shifts preference-relevant metrics in the operator-favored direction where the metric has headroom. U3DWind: A Low Altitude Wind Field Dataset and Benchmark for Urban Air Mobility

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) requires reliable assessment of low-altitude wind hazards, because winds, gusts, and building-induced turbulence have been recognized as critical factors affecting vehicle stability, route feasibility, vertiport siting, and airspace management. While wind-tunnel experiments, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multiscale downscaling, reduced-order models, and UAV planning datasets have advanced wind-aware analysis, public resources for data-driven, city-scale UAM planning remain limited in geographic coverage, scenario diversity, vertical extent, building realism, and task-oriented benchmarking. To address this gap, we introduce U3DWind, a building-resolved low-altitude wind-field dataset generated using our GPU-accelerated Lattice Boltzmann Method--Large-Eddy Simulation (LBM-LES) framework for rapid urban flow simulation. U3DWind covers five megacities in China: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong. It contains 720 simulations, with 16 inflow directions, three reference wind speeds, and three seasonal atmospheric scenarios (annual, summer, and winter) for each city. At a 10 m grid resolution, the dataset provides three-dimensional three-component (3D3C) velocity, turbulent kinetic energy (TKE), flow density, and fluid--solid masks. To support operationally relevant evaluation, we further define five baseline tasks: wind-field prediction, sparse-sensor wind-field reconstruction, site wind-exposure ranking, airworthiness wind-compliance risk scoring, and noise propagation modeling. Congestion Games with Heterogeneous Valuations: An Optimal Transport Approach

In emerging urban mobility and logistics applications, such as advanced air mobility, electric vehicle charging, and shared service systems, agents with heterogeneous valuations choose among multiple destinations while sharing congested network resources. However, existing congestion game and resource allocation models do not simultaneously capture heterogeneous destination preferences and aggregate congestion externalities. We introduce a new nonatomic congestion game framework in which agents are endowed with heterogeneous destination valuations modeled by a measure space. We characterize Nash equilibria and social optima in this setting and show that both admit finite-dimensional representations in terms of threshold vectors and dual potentials. These structures induce a partition of the valuation space that determines agents' destination choices. Our analysis leverages Kantorovich duality from optimal transport theory and provides a new geometric perspective on congestion games with heterogeneous valuations.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Decentralized Coordination of Autonomous Traffic Through Advanced Air Mobility Corridors

The use of dedicated corridors for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) traffic is one of the most commonly proposed pathways to integrating them into existing airspace operations. Most prior research has focused on the design of networks of AAM corridors and conflict resolution for aircraft within corridors. It is also generally believed that while attractive from an implementation perspective, corridor-based operations may be inefficient, especially in the absence of centralized traffic management. In this paper, we show that contrary to this belief, it is possible for autonomous aircraft to learn to self-organize into corridor flows in decentralized settings. We illustrate our approach using scenarios in which fixed-wing aircraft need to safely and efficiently traverse (1) a single corridor with metering after the exit, (2) a sequence of two consecutive corridors, and (3) a corridor that splits into two. We find that in decentralized settings with only local information, the aircraft are able to conform to the corridor boundaries more than 94% of the time and reach their goal in a relatively efficient manner. Furthermore, tactical interventions to handle violations of the separation minimum are needed only infrequently in low- and medium-density settings. However, such tactical interventions become more frequently necessary only when traffic density is high.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Decentralized Autonomous Traffic Management through Corridor Networks

As autonomous aircraft are introduced at scale and traffic density increases, centralized management becomes insufficient to coordinate the large numbers of crewed and uncrewed aircraft. Dedicated Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) corridors have therefore been proposed for organizing high-density autonomous traffic flows. The desire to scalably provide autonomous aircraft flexibility in trajectory planning motivates the development of decentralized approaches to traffic management in AAM corridors. In this work, we extend a multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) approach to address the challenge of decentralized traffic flow management in air corridor networks. We test policies trained in a single-corridor setting on increasingly complex multi-corridor networks with combinations of merges and splits in a zero-shot manner. Experimental results demonstrate that learned behaviors transfer well to scenarios with varying traffic density, network geometry, and heterogeneous vehicle performance, without needing centralized coordination or model retraining. We evaluate system-level performance in terms of conformance to corridor boundaries, completion rates, average speeds, distance traveled, and maintenance of inter-aircraft separation. We find that although our policies require only locally coordinated entry, traversal, and exit behaviors, they collectively produce desirable traffic flows through the corridor network.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Scalable Online Flight Trajectory Optimization via Sequential Quadratic Programming for Urban Air Mobility in Ultra Low-Altitude Airspace

As Urban Air Mobility (UAM) scales toward high-density operations, generating collision-free trajectories within complex 3D cityscapes is a critical safety requirement. This paper proposes a scalable Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) framework that integrates geometric environmental constraints, operational limits, and vehicle dynamics within a single online trajectory optimization process. Rather than precomputing obstacle-free corridors ahead of time, our method encodes obstacle avoidance as live separating-hyperplane constraints regenerated at every solver iteration, so that dense urban geometry and full-DOF vehicle dynamics are resolved jointly and online as the reference and environment evolve. A variable-scale quadtree decomposition keeps computation bounded, enabling the framework to scale to city-wide environments while preserving real-time performance for high-speed flight. We validate the framework against conventional SQP, Iterative Linear Quadratic Regulator, and Differential Dynamic Programming across flights in five real-world urban centers, attaining 100% success and clearance rates on CPU-only hardware.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Distance-based subsidy rate design to incentivize ride-hail access to advanced air mobility hubs

The success of advanced air mobility (AAM) operations is largely contingent on its effective integration with other ground transport modes. Under many use cases, AAM operators have to work with ride-hailing operators to create a seamless air taxi travel experience with adequate first and last-mile access. In investigating this multimodal coalition, this study proposes a distance-based subsidy rate design for AAM operators to incentivize ride-hail access to AAM hubs, incorporating air mobility operators' profitability considerations and travelers' route choices jointly. Using New York City (NYC) airport access as a case study, this study integrates high-volume for-hire vehicle (HVFHV) data from NYC taxi zones to consider real-world spatial demand distributions while considering passenger groups with different values of time (VOT) to derive insights on distinctive customer bases. Overall, the results show that AAM operators would need to subsidize the ride-hailing operators on vertiport access trips when air taxi operating costs exceed $12/mi. The analysis of ridership at AAM hubs indicates that ridership and profit contributions differ across different candidate vertiports in Manhattan, reflecting spatial demand heterogeneity. Additionally, having the airport access system in place, the taxi zones that generate the highest passenger demand to all three major NYC airports are identified under lower air taxi fare scenarios. These findings highlight how a distance-based subsidy rate design is beneficial in facilitating better access to vertiports and to foster high air taxi rid(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

From Sentiment to Actionable Insights: Public Sentiment Analysis of Advanced Air Mobility

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is an emerging low-altitude transportation system whose successful deployment depends on both technological progress and public acceptance. Public acceptance can influence government support, regulations, noise standards, willingness to fly, and the commercial viability of AAM. Understanding public sentiment is therefore essential for identifying societal barriers and developing effective adoption strategies. This study analyzes 306,009 human-generated texts collected from Reddit and Quora to examine AAM-related public discourse using artificial intelligence models. Seven sentiment-analysis approaches, including lexicon-based, machine-learning, deep-learning, and transformer models, are evaluated to identify the most reliable method for AAM-specific sentiment classification. ModernBERT achieves the highest performance and is used to label the full dataset. Latent Dirichlet Allocation is then applied within each sentiment class to identify underlying topics and examine their temporal evolution from 2008 to 2025. The analysis identifies 20 topics and six major cross-sentiment clusters: workforce and skill development, regulation and compliance, drone technical performance, military and geopolitical applications, safety and operational risks, and noise and disturbance. These findings can help policymakers, industry stakeholders, researchers, and operators develop targeted regulations, safety measures, workforce programs, noise-reduction strategies, and public communication efforts to address concerns and support the responsible deployment of AAM.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

An Analytical Methodology for Quantifying Airspace Conflict Rate and Complexity

Air traffic growth, advanced air mobility, and increasingly autonomous operations are driving the need for scalable and adaptive airspace design methodologies. Central to this challenge is quantifying how traffic flow structure and demand, governed in part by airspace geometry, influence conflict generation and operational complexity. This paper presents an analytical framework for computing conflict rate and conflict probability in structured airspace using stochastic flow models. Traffic streams are modeled as renewal processes with prescribed inter-arrival time distributions, while interactions between flows are captured through geometry-dependent minimum spacing constraints at merges and crossings. Within this formulation, closed-form upper bounds on the expected conflict rate and conflict probability per aircraft are derived as functions of flow configuration and demand. These metrics are interpreted as complementary measures of airspace complexity, reflecting controller workload and per-aircraft operational risk. The methodology is applied to representative hexagonal cell geometries with varying routing structures and flow distributions. Results reveal non-monotonic tradeoffs between routing flexibility, capacity, and conflict generation, with intermediate flow configurations outperforming both highly constrained and highly distributed cases. The proposed framework provides a tractable tool for evaluating airspace design alternatives and complexity-informed traffic management strategies.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Adaptive Model Predictive Control of Nonlinear Generic Urban Air Mobility Using Linear Parameter-Varying Systems

This paper presents an adaptive model predictive control (MPC) framework for nonlinear urban air mobility (UAM) vehicles operating across the full flight envelope. The proposed approach leverages a linear parameter-varying (LPV) representation to update the predictive model online, enabling accurate capture of strongly nonlinear and time-varying dynamics associated with distributed electric propulsion (DEP) eVTOL aircraft. To systematically address the high-dimensional and coupled nature of MPC tuning, a multi-objective evolutionary optimization strategy based on NSGA-II is employed, incorporating proper normalization of states and control inputs to ensure balanced weighting and meaningful exploration of the design space. The resulting controller explicitly accounts for actuator constraints and enables reconfigurable control allocation for fault-tolerant operation. The framework is evaluated in nonlinear simulations using NASA's Generic Urban Air Mobility (GUAM) model and benchmarked against a robust servomechanism linear quadratic regulator (RSLQR). Results demonstrate that the proposed adaptive MPC achieves improved trajectory tracking and enhanced robustness under both nominal conditions and actuator degradation scenarios, including partial motor failure, while maintaining constraint satisfaction throughout all flight regimes.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Corridor Design and Separation Definition in Advanced Air Mobility: Systematic Literature Review

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) uses electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles to address urban congestion and emissions. However, corridor design, operation management, and separation standards remain underexamined for safe high-density operations. This paper applies the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to systematically review relevant literature from IEEE Xplore and Web of Science, focusing on publications from 2010 to 2024. A Context, Intervention, Mechanism, and Outcome (CIMO) framework guided the development of research questions. After screening 2,039 journal and conference papers, 62 articles met the inclusion criteria. The findings reveal a lack of integrated corridor design approaches, limited operational strategies, and reliance on standards originally designed for conventional aviation. A unified corridor design and separation definition frameworks and taxonomies are proposed to address these shortcomings, informing future investigations and operational frameworks for safe, efficient eVTOL operation deployment in urban settings.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Like Uber or Like Buses? Economic Feasibility Analysis of UAM for Airport Access

The airport access use case is a promising early-stage application for Urban Air Mobility (UAM). Understanding the operational paradigm of UAM at airports is crucial for making equitable and effective regulatory and management decisions. A central open question is whether UAM will be integrated into the airport transportation network as a conventional scheduled transit service, such as subways and rail, or as a Transportation Network Company (TNC) characterized by dynamic supply-demand matching. In this paper, we propose a two-stage framework for conducting an economic feasibility analysis of UAM networks. In the first stage, we introduce a joint-supply-demand variable pricing problem to evaluate the impact of dynamic pricing on UAM operations. This model uses a binary logit formulation to capture the trade-off between travel time advantages and fare levels. In the second stage, the determined demand is used as input for the Electric Urban Air Mobility Vehicle Routing Problem with Non-linear Charging Time (eUAMVRP-NL), which optimizes fleet scheduling and charging decisions to derive operating revenue and cost estimates. We apply this framework to a case study of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) access market with an eight-spoke vertiport network. Our results indicate that UAM operations benefit significantly from TNC-like management; a variable pricing policy can increase operating profits by more than 100\% compared to fixed-pricing schemes. Furthermore, we identify economies of stage length in longer UAM flights.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Safe Arrival Scheduling at Constraint Waypoints in UAM Corridors

This study introduces a novel Air Traffic Control (ATC) concept to support self-separation between vehicles in Urban Air Mobility (UAM) corridors. Our proposed scheme involves sharing intended arrival schedules at Constrained Waypoints (CWPs) among UAM operators. We propose two approaches to assist the arrival scheduling at CWPs by computing the minimum arrival time gap necessary for each pair of vehicles to ensure their safety throughout the flights within the corridor. The first approach considers the minimum separation distance required by the Near Mid-Air-Collision (NMAC) avoidance rules, while the second one is based on the Responsibility-Sensitive Safety (RSS) rules. We demonstrate that the NMAC-rule-based approach can effectively prevent collisions in normal circumstances, where the vehicles adhere to the speed limits of the corridor. However, this approach does not guarantee safety if vehicles exceed the speed limits. Conversely, while the RSS-rule-based approach ensures collision prevention during emergencies when vehicles exceed speed limits, it may require larger arrival time gaps under normal circumstances, which may lead to reduced traffic flow. Our results are confirmed through numerical simulations.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

From Visual to Digital: Coordination Scheduling and Its Effect on Safety and Efficiency in UAM Corridors

This paper explores scalable coordination strategies for urban air mobility (UAM) corridors by comparing two representative approaches. The first, inspired by visual flight rules (VFR), is a local coordination strategy relying on spatial information available to each vehicle. The second, conceptually aligned with digital flight rules (DFR), is a global coordination strategy based on shared estimated times of arrival (ETAs) at constrained waypoints (CWPs). To support this comparison, we introduce a lightweight disturbance-avoidance mechanism that enables vehicles to adjust their ETAs in response to forecasted disruptions using shared information. We evaluate these approaches through numerical simulations under varying disturbance levels, comparing the locally reactive VFR-style scheme with the globally coordinated DFR-style scheme. Results show that VFR achieves high throughput in low-traffic scenarios but becomes increasingly prone to collisions at higher traffic densities unless conservative separation is enforced, which reduces traffic efficiency. In contrast, DFR maintains more consistent safety performance and traffic efficiency, even under moderate ETA update propagation delays. These findings highlight the advantages of DFR-style global coordination in managing high-density air traffic control (ATC) operations within UAM corridors.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Safety-Assured Arrival Scheduling in Sequential UAM Corridor Sections under Speed and Separation Constraints

This paper presents a safety-assured arrival-scheduling framework for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) corridor operations. We propose an analytical method to compute a sufficient ETA gap at Constrained Waypoints (CWPs) that guarantees longitudinal separation along sequential corridor sections with heterogeneous speed limits. The resulting ETA-gap condition depends on section-specific speed bounds and the required separation distance, providing an efficiently computable rule suitable for integration into future digital ETA-scheduling and air traffic management systems. We show that the computed ETA gap ensures safe separation across all corridor sections under prescribed section travel times and speed limits. Numerical simulations for a decreasing-speed corridor confirm that vehicles coordinated with the proposed mechanism adjust their speeds to maintain the required spacing, avoid potential collisions, and support improved traffic flow compared with unscheduled operations.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Dynamic Lane Allocation in UAM Corridors for Efficient Multimodal Door-to-Door Mobility

This article presents dynamic directional lane allocation in urban air mobility (UAM) corridors as a discrete-time mixed-integer linear program (MILP). This formulation activates, deactivates, and reverses lane direction as bi-directional airspace demand evolves. We model demand from disaggregate ground travel data by decomposing each trip into a multi-modal sequence with first-, middle-, and last-mile legs and routing the UAM-served middle-mile segment through a vertiport-side dispatch model. We use the San Francisco Bay Area as a case study by placing a multi-region spanning corridor between Contra Costa county and Silicon Valley. We find that the dynamic policy cuts unused airspace capacity by 5x, increases mean lane utilization from 36-48% to 67% at the same service level relative to baselines, and reduces commuting-population mean travel time by up to 21.6%. These results show that dynamic configuration of airspace capacity alleviates a significant percentage of the under-utilization issue of lane-based UAM airspace design and UAM concept of operations. This dynamic allocation also provides a safe, structural way to increase throughput, making UAM a more viable complement to multimodal door-to-door mobility systems.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Secure Coordination for Vertiport Sequencing in Advanced Air Mobility

Advanced air mobility operations will require reliable coordination mechanisms for managing dense traffic near vertiports. However, sequencing decisions may become vulnerable when they rely on potentially falsified self-reported information such as estimated time of arrival. Self-interested vehicles may misreport their arrival times to obtain favorable landing priority, while malicious actors may spoof information to disrupt sequencing decisions or induce unnecessary congestion. This paper studies secure coordination for vertiport sequencing under sensing uncertainty. We consider a coordinator that combines self-reported Remote-ID information with externally obtained surveillance measurements to check reports and assign separation-feasible arrival schedules. Since surveillance-based estimates are uncertain, falsified reports may remain consistent with the sensing uncertainty region and cannot always be rejected outright. We therefore formulate sequencing as a robust design problem over this uncertainty region. Self-interested misreporting is modeled as a strategic deviation that improves the reporting vehicle's own sequencing outcome, whereas malicious spoofing is modeled as an adversarial disturbance that degrades the system-level objective. The final paper will develop robust sequencing rules over surveillance-consistent uncertainty sets and evaluate their performance in representative vertiport sequencing scenarios.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Collaborative Optimization Framework of Battery Charging / Swapping Stations for eVTOLs Based on Closed-Loop Supply Chain and Space-Time Network

Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, by virtue of their advantages such as high efficiency, environmental friendliness, and low noise, are regarded as an effective means of alleviating urban traffic congestion. Although eVTOLs have policy support, industrial foundations, and market prospects globally, their commercialization process still faces obstacles. Purely electric eVTOLs confront constraints including limited battery energy density, high operational power requirements, and challenges associated with rapid energy replenishment, which collectively restrict their flight endurance and application scenarios. To tackle these issues, following an investigation into battery energy replenishment strategies, a closed-loop supply chain-based optimization framework for eVTOL battery charging and swapping is proposed. First, a time-space network technique is employed to solve the modeling challenge of an efficient and flexible battery transportation system between charging stations and swapping stations. Subsequently, aiming to maximize the operational revenue of the model, optimized management of battery swapping, transportation, and charging processes is implemented, facilitating coordinated operation among eVTOLs, swapping stations, and charging stations. On this basis, the model is solved by Gurobi, verifying its feasibility. Finally, the results of sensitivity analysis show that the model performs excellently in several aspects, including battery swap service quality, system sustainability, and operational resilience.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Time-To-Reach Separation and Safety Filtering for Safe, Fair, and Efficient Multi-Agent Coordination

Advanced Air Mobility operations are expected to significantly increase aerial traffic in urban airspace, requiring autonomous traffic management systems to ensure collision-free operations in highly congested environments. In this paper, we propose a multi-agent coordination framework that uses minimum time-to-reach (TTR) as a unifying metric for priority assignment, temporal separation, and safety filtering. We focus on the problem of coordinating multiple aerial vehicles merging into an air corridor while maintaining safe separation between vehicles. Vehicles are assigned arrival-consistent priority based on TTR, and target TTR values are used to enforce temporal spacing, which induces spatial separation. A priority-consistent safety filtering layer based on Hamilton-Jacobi reachability value functions promotes collision avoidance while minimally modifying the reference guidance. Simulation results in a highly congested corridor merging scenario show that the proposed method improves safety, fairness, and efficiency compared to time-optimal guidance and priority-agnostic safety filtering.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

An Exact Algorithm for Load-Dependent Traveling Salesman Problem for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Package Delivery

In this article, we present a novel formulation for the load-dependent traveling salesman problem (LD-TSP), in which travel cost (or energy expended) depends on the vehicle's current load. This problem is relevant for package delivery and urban air mobility, where vehicles must transport and drop cargo at specified locations. The challenge lies in modeling the cost, which varies with both route sequence and onboard load. Our key contributions are: (i) formulating an energy dissipation model and proving energy expenditure depends linearly on vehicle mass and distance; and (ii) formulating a mixed-integer nonlinear programming formulation and providing a novel relaxation to obtain a mixed-integer linear program. Extensive numerical results show that optimal solutions for most instances with up to 50 targets are obtained within one minute. For unsolved instances within a 10-minute limit, optimality gaps are under 13%, highlighting the formulation's tightness. We further benchmark our approach against three proposed baseline formulations and another algorithm from a related problem, and demonstrate that our formulation outperforms all baselines.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)

Reliability, Robustness, and Resilience Modeling for Surveillance System in Advanced Air Mobility Operations

Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) in low-altitude airspace requires a reliable, robust, and resilient surveillance system capable of continuously detecting, identifying, and tracking aircraft under both normal and off-nominal conditions. To address this need, this study develops a comprehensive 3R modeling framework, reliability, robustness, and resilience, for the Surveillance for Advanced Air Mobility (SAM) system, with a focus on the optimal design and operation of a multi-type sensor network. Under normal operating conditions, the reliability model determines the baseline sensor types, quantities, and locations required to satisfy surveillance coverage and detection requirements. To address external perturbations, such as adverse weather conditions or sudden increases in AAM traffic demand, the robustness model identifies additional sensor requirements needed to maintain system performance. Furthermore, for surveillance outages caused by primary sensor failures, the resiliency model develops backup sensor deployment and dispatch strategies to provide temporary surveillance coverage, minimize operational disruptions, and support the safe continuation of AAM operations.(预印本;同行评审状态请核对原文。)
