The ePlane Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Noida International Airport to develop infrastructure and operating procedures for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, as the Chennai-based aerospace company moves its e200X towards testing and certification.

Under the agreement, the two companies will work on infrastructure required for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), including vertiports, charging stations, operational procedures and Vertiport Management Systems. The partnership will also cover the development of frameworks involving regulators, Air Traffic Control (ATC) and state governments.

Noida International Airport will allocate space within its premises for proof-of-concept trials, vertiports and charging infrastructure. The airport will also work on adapting its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for eVTOL operations.

The ePlane Company, meanwhile, will work on the required regulatory clearances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), alongside prototyping and flight testing of the e200X. The companies also plan to develop AI-assisted fleet scheduling systems that can eventually be integrated with smart-city infrastructure.

ePlane Moves e200X Towards Flight Testing

The agreement comes as ePlane advances development of its full-scale e200X aircraft. The company unveiled its first full-scale prototype, the e200X PT-01, earlier this year, and the aircraft is currently undergoing ground testing.

The e200X is currently in the DGCA type-certification process. The regulator accepted the company's type-certification application in 2024, while ePlane has previously received Design Organisation Approval from the DGCA for electric aircraft. The company says it has accumulated more than 10,000 km of flight testing across earlier technology demonstrators, including the e50 and ATVA platforms.

The company is targeting flight testing of a certification-conforming e200X prototype in 2027. Aviation Week reported in August that ePlane was aiming to begin such testing in April 2027, subject to progress through the certification process.

The e200X is being developed for multiple applications, including passenger transport, air ambulances and cargo. In September, the Technology Development Board approved ₹285 crore in financial support for Ubifly Technologies under the Research Development and Innovation Fund. The project has a total approved cost of ₹570 crore and is intended to take the technology from Technology Readiness Level 6 to Level 9.

Noida Airport Adds AAM Infrastructure To New Aviation Hub

The partnership also comes shortly after Noida International Airport began commercial operations. The airport at Jewar was inaugurated in March 2026 and commenced commercial flights in June, with IndiGo operating its first scheduled service. Phase 1 has been designed to handle 12 million passengers annually.

The airport's master plan allows for further expansion, with the full project planned to scale significantly beyond its initial capacity. Its location in the National Capital Region could make it a potential hub for future regional and urban air mobility services.

For ePlane, the MoU represents an effort to develop the ground infrastructure and operating framework alongside the aircraft itself. The company said the initial trials will use drones before moving towards piloted e200X operations once the aircraft receives the necessary certification.

The key next steps will therefore involve e200X testing, regulatory approvals and development of the infrastructure needed to support eVTOL operations at the airport.
